Lynnridge Mall is a popular Shopping center in the heart of Lynnwood ridge Pretoria. Living in the area I have known this mall almost for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the area, and regularly run these roads. This made it nice to run these roads, almost nostalgic to run past school friends houses and See how things have changed over the years.

Lynnridge mall held the race on 17 April 2017 with all the proceeds going to the Sungardens Hospice. All proceeds contributed to helping 297 Patients living with Life-limiting illnesses such a cancer, Motor neuron, HIV-Related illnesses and organ failure. This year there was 2400 participants and they raised an Income for Hospice of R50 000. This is wonderful and I’m sure the Money will be allocated correctly. They hope to next year grow even more and have about 3000 participants.

Pre- entries could be done online, but on day registration started at 5:00 with all races starting at 7:00. The mall was buzzing with lost of early birds coming to register. The coffee shop on the corner was nice and busy with runners trying to warm up in the overcast weather.  The lady at Registration was very friendly and almost talked me into doing the 21km. Maybe next year, my planning for the day was a little out.

The Route is a mixture of flat, up and down hill with runners ending the last stretch on Rubida road hill. The route runs through streets of Lynwood ridge. It is a very calm neighborhood, with nice shady trees. I was impressed to see the amount of marshals and police that were there to assist runners along the way. I enjoyed the rout and will be adding it to my regular running routes.

The only thing I noticed is that the distance ran was more that the distance I entered for. The initial lady at the registration table said it was 10km and my tracking devise + Strava on which I mapped out the route on said 11km.

The water points were also nice – they had Coke as well as water bags.

Congratulations to the Winners of the day, you can visit their Facebook page to see all the pictures!

All in all it was a very well organised event.

The medals are nice and the environment was very nice. I would definitely keep this race on my calendar for the future.

Hope to see you there next year!

Happy Running!
